LCA Skills workflow
The study sequence from intake and scope through calculation, interpretation, review, and handoff.
1. Intake
Clarify the decision, audience, deliverable, expected claim, and confidentiality or licensing constraints. The goal is to understand what evidence the study actually needs.
2. Goal and scope
- Functional unit and reference flow
- System boundary
- Geography and time
- Allocation or substitution rules
- Data-quality expectations
- Impact-method requirements
Do not calculate while unresolved scope choices could materially change the interpretation.
3. Plan the work
Create a study workspace and break the work into tasks with inputs, outputs, acceptance criteria, dependencies, and evidence requirements.
4. Build the inventory
Document the foreground system and check units, signs, reference products, provider links, physical balances where relevant, and duplicate credits or omissions.
5. Run the calculation
Record the exact tool and version, database, model or activity, impact method, functional basis, and run settings.
Calculation success is not model validation
A successful software call means the calculation ran. It does not prove that the model or method is scientifically appropriate.
6. Interpret and review
Evaluate hotspots, scenarios, sensitivity, uncertainty, data quality, and limitations. Material review findings should trigger correction and, when necessary, recalculation.
7. Handoff
Preserve assumptions, model identifiers, run records, results, review findings, and release state so another person can resume the study without depending on chat history.
