Brightway MCP
Use Brightway 2.5 through MCP for project setup, inventory work, LCIA, uncertainty, contribution analysis, and result inspection.
Overview
Brightway MCP is an MCP server for Brightway 2.5. It exposes project and database discovery, foreground-model operations, LCIA, uncertainty, contribution analysis, supply-chain inspection, exports, and result lifecycle tools to MCP-compatible clients.
The server currently exposes 33 tools: 22 core LCA tools, six explicit background-job variants for long-running operations, and five job-lifecycle tools.
When to use it
- Inspect Brightway projects, databases, activities, and LCIA methods.
- Build or modify a controlled foreground database.
- Run single- or multi-method LCIA.
- Compare activities and run Monte Carlo uncertainty.
- Inspect process and emission contributions or a supply-chain tree.
- Use explicit background jobs when a client cannot hold a long MCP request open.
Requirements
- Python 3.11 or newer
- Brightway 2.5 packages (bw2data 4+, bw2calc 2+)
- An MCP-compatible client for agent use
- A Brightway project or permission to create one
Scientific boundary
A successful Brightway calculation does not establish that the database, functional unit, allocation rule, LCIA method, uncertainty distributions, or interpretation are appropriate for the study. The MCP server exposes Brightway operations; study design and review remain the practitioner's responsibility.
