Brightway MCP quickstart
Inspect a Brightway project and run a first LCIA without guessing database or method identifiers.
First workflow
health_check
→ list_projects
→ list_databases(project=...)
→ search_activities(project=..., database=..., query=...)
→ list_methods(project=..., filter=...)
→ run_lca(...)
→ contribution_analysis(result_id=...)
→ dispose_result(result_id)Inspect before calculating
Select the project, database, activity, amount, and LCIA method from returned Brightway data. Do not infer activity codes or method tuples from display names.
Long-running operations
Version 0.3.0 provides explicit async variants for project setup, LCIA-method import, multi-method calculations, Monte Carlo, activity comparison, and supply-chain analysis. These return a job_id that can be polled with get_job_status and read with get_job_result.
Note
Compatible clients can also use native MCP Tasks when BRIGHTWAY_NATIVE_TASKS_ENABLED=true. The explicit async tools remain available for clients without Tasks support.
Clean up stored state
Dispose solved LCA results and completed background jobs when they are no longer needed. Keep exported study assumptions and identifiers separately from the live server state.
