Install BioSTEAM / QSDsan MCP

Install the MCP server and verify its process-modeling runtime.

Requirements

Python 3.11 or newer
BioSTEAM 2.51+
QSDsan 1.4+
biorefineries 2.34+
chaospy 4.3+

Install from source

git clone https://github.com/SDAI-institute/Biosteam-mcp.git
cd Biosteam-mcp/mcp
python -m pip install -e .

For development tests:

bash

python -m pip install -e ".[dev]"

Start the server

bash

biosteam-mcp

Use health_check as the first MCP call. It reports whether the BioSTEAM, ThermoSTEAM, and QSDsan runtime can be imported.

Read-only mode

Read-only mode blocks model construction, re-simulation, uncertainty, optimization, job mutation, and result disposal while allowing inspection of existing stored results.
