Cornstover-to-ethanol reference case
Use the published BioSTEAM cornstover model for a reproducible TEA, foreground-impact, and uncertainty sanity workflow.
1. Load the published model
build_system(model_name="cornstover")
→ get_tea_results(result_id=...)The repository reliability check compares this MCP path with an independent direct BioSTEAM API subprocess and records identical FCI, FOC, VOC, NPV, and MSP values.
2. Check the reference TEA
| Metric | Repository reference |
|---|---|
| Units | 68 |
| Ethanol output | ≈21,978 kg/h |
| MSP | ≈$0.6926/kg |
| Installed equipment cost | ≈$210.0 MM |
| FCI | ≈$359.8 MM |
| FOC | ≈$9.8 MM/yr |
| VOC | ≈$72.6 MM/yr |
Note
These are reproducibility values for the published BioSTEAM reference model. They are not current project cost estimates.
3. Keep the foreground-impact boundary explicit
get_lca_results(
result_id=...,
indicator="GWP",
cfs={"cornstover": 0.05, "electricity": 0.45}
)Warning
get_lca_results applies caller-supplied foreground characterization factors to feeds/electricity. It is not a full background-database cradle-to-gate LCA unless the supplied factors already represent that boundary.
4. Reproduce the uncertainty sanity pattern
The reliability study records P5 = 0.6253, P50 = 0.7026, and P95 = 0.7901 $/kg MSP around the deterministic MSP ≈ 0.6927 $/kg.
Recorded Spearman directions are physically interpretable: feedstock price has ρ ≈ +0.952 with MSP, while electricity price has ρ ≈ -0.29 because the reference model exports excess electricity.
Note
These statistics are an internal-consistency qualification of the uncertainty/sensitivity path, not an external uncertainty benchmark.
