Troubleshoot Brightway MCP

Resolve environment, project, database, method, timeout, and remote-connection problems.

The client cannot start the server

Check that the MCP client is using the same Python environment where Brightway MCP and Brightway are installed. Use the absolute Python executable when environment inheritance is unreliable.

Projects, activities, or methods are ambiguous

Run health_check.
List the Brightway projects and select the intended project.
List its databases.
Search within the intended database and reuse returned activity identifiers.
Use list_methods and reuse the exact returned method tuple.

Do not reconstruct activity keys or method tuples from display names.

A long calculation exceeds the client timeout

Use the explicit async variant when available. Poll the returned job_id with get_job_status and retrieve the terminal result with get_job_result.

HTTP works locally but not remotely

A remote client cannot use the workstation's localhost. Use an authenticated gateway, VPN, or secure tunnel rather than binding the Brightway runtime directly to the public internet.
